Pine: A Story of Loss Coming to Nintendo Switch in Late 2024

Fellow Traveller and Made Up Games have announced that their emotional and interactive game, Pine: A Story of Loss, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in late 2024. The game follows the story of a woodworker who is grieving the recent passing of his wife, and promises players a poignant and reflective experience through wordless interaction and hand-drawn animation.

In Pine: A Story of Loss, players will step into the shoes of the woodworker as he struggles to move on in the forest glade where he once made a home with his wife. The game will feature tasks such as collecting water, thatching the roof, and planting crops, all of which bring back vivid memories of his wife. To preserve these memories, the woodworker captures them in beautiful wood carvings, but this soon becomes a dangerous obsession.

The game is designed to be enjoyed in one or two sittings, immersing players in the woodworker’s world through environmental storytelling, ambient soundscapes, and an original musical score. Everyday chores such as tending to the garden and gathering wood for winter will be conveyed through interactive puzzles and mini-games, set against beautiful landscapes that change with the four seasons.

Pine’s artwork features impressionistic environments inspired by artists like N.C. Wyeth, while the character animations draw inspiration from classic comics such as Tintin. The game is being developed by Made Up Games, led by professional illustrator and children’s book author Tom Booth, and programmer Najati Imam. The woodworker’s story originally began as a sketch by Booth following a personal loss, which resonated with fans and inspired the creation of Pine.

The announcement trailer for Pine: A Story of Loss has been released, giving players a glimpse into the emotional and immersive experience that awaits them. The game serves as a reminder that no one is alone in their grief, and aims to provide a touching and meaningful journey for players.

Fans of emotional storytelling and interactive experiences can look forward to diving into the world of Pine: A Story of Loss when it arrives on the Nintendo Switch later this year.
