Famitsu Sales Report: Switch OLED Leads Japanese Hardware Sales, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tops Software Charts

Famitsu sales data for the week of April 15 to April 21, 2024, has been released, showcasing the latest trends in the Japanese gaming market. According to the report, the Switch OLED continues to dominate the hardware sales charts with 50,602 units sold, followed by the PS5 at 16,149 units. The Switch Lite and regular Switch models also maintained steady sales figures at 7,531 and 6,148 units respectively.

In comparison to the previous week’s numbers, there has been a slight decline in sales for the Switch OLED, which sold 58,336 units. However, the PS5 saw a slight increase from 16,455 units to 16,149 units. The Xbox Series X and Series S also saw a slight increase in sales, while the PS4 experienced a significant drop from 41 units to 92 units.

On the software front, familiar titles continue to dominate the charts. “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” holds the top spot with 11,585 units sold, bringing its total sales to 5,804,495 units. “Princess Peach: Showtime” and “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” follow closely behind, with 8,012 and 7,470 units sold respectively.

Other popular titles such as “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” “Nintendo Switch Sports,” and “Minecraft” also maintain their positions in the top 10. New releases like “ARK: Survival Ascended” for the PS5 entered the charts with 4,127 units sold.

Overall, the gaming market in Japan continues to show strong sales for Nintendo Switch titles, with a mix of new and familiar games attracting players. The competition between the Switch OLED and the PS5 remains fierce, with both consoles vying for the top spot in hardware sales. As the market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these trends develop in the coming weeks.
