BAFTA Game Awards 2022 Winners Revealed: Nintendo Takes Home Multiple Awards

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) recently held their annual awards show to honor the best in the gaming industry. The results have been released, and while some winners may not come as a surprise, there were definitely some standout titles that took home multiple awards.

Nintendo had a successful night at the BAFTA Game Awards, with two of their games receiving recognition. “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” won the Technical Achievement award, while “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” took home the Family award. However, it was “Baldur’s Gate” that ended up being the big winner of the night, surpassing all other winners combined.

In the Animation category, “Alan Wake” by the development team at Remedy Entertainment and Epic Games, “Hi-Fi Rush” by Tango Gameworks and Bethesda Softworks, “Hogwarts Legacy” by Avalanche Software and Warner Bros Games, “Marvel’s Spider-Man” by Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment, and “Star Wars Jedi Survivor” by Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts were all nominated. The winner of this category was “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” by the development team at Nintendo EPD.

For Artistic Achievement, “Alan Wake,” “Baldur’s Gate,” “Cocoon” by Geometric Interactive and Annapurna Interactive, “Diablo IV” by Blizzard Entertainment, and “Final Fantasy XVI” by Square Enix were all nominated. The winner was “Baldur’s Gate” by Larian Studio.

In the Audio Achievement category, “Alan Wake,” “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III,” “Hi-Fi Rush,” “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” and “Marvel’s Spider-Man” were nominated. The winner was “Alan Wake.”

The Best Game award nominees included “Alan Wake,” “Baldur’s Gate,” “Dave the Diver” by Mintrocket, “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” and “Marvel’s Spider-Man.” The winner was “Baldur’s Gate.”

In the British Game category, “Cassette Beasts” by Bytten Studio and Raw Fury, “Dead Island” by Dambuster Studios, “Disney Illusion Island” by Dlala Studios and Disney, “Football Manager” by Sports Interactive and SEGA Europe, and “Viewfinder” by Sad Owl Studios and Thunderful Publishing were nominated. The winner was “Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin” by Frontier Developments.

The Debut Game award nominees included “Cocoon,” “Dave the Diver,” “Dredge” by Black Salt Games and Team Digital, “Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical” by Summerfall Studios and Humble Games, and “Venba” by Visai Games. The winner was “Viewfinder.”

In the Evolving Game category, “Cyberpunk,” “Final Fantasy XIV Online,” “Fortnite,” “Forza Horizon,” “Genshin Impact,” and “No Man’s Sky” were nominated. The winner was “Cyberpunk.”

The Family award nominees included “Cocoon,” “Dave the Diver,” “Disney Illusion Island,” “Hi-Fi Rush,” “Hogwarts Legacy,” and “Super Mario Bros. Wonder.” The winner was “Super Mario Bros. Wonder.”

Lastly, the Game Beyond Entertainment award nominees included “Chants of Sennaar” by Julien Moya and Thomas Panuel, and “Goodbye Volcano High” by KO_OP. The winner was “Tchia” by Phil Crifo, Marilou Lopez-Aguilera, and Thoan’ueb Thomadra.

Overall, the BAFTA Game Awards showcased the best and brightest in the gaming industry, with a diverse range of titles and developers being recognized for their outstanding achievements. Congratulations to all the winners!
